The theme of 'The Fault In Our Stars' is to keep on going, even when the going gets though. Many of you have probably heard this before and I feel that it fits this book perfectly. Both of the main character struggle with cancer. For every battle they face though, they face it head on and strong, ready to overcome it. In the beginning, even small things like going up the stairs, for Hazel, become a battle she has overcome. "The contraption was necessary because my lungs sucked at being lungs. I didn't want to take the elevator because taking the elevator is a Last Days kind of activity at support group, so I took the stairs" (Green 8). (Next part is a spoiler alert) For Gus, having the cancer return could have made him sit around and try to make everyone feel bad for him, but no, he's going to try his best to fight it. When telling Hazel that the cancer has returned, this is what he has to say, " 'I'll fight it. I'll fight it for you. Don't worry about me, Hazel Grace. I'm okay. I'll find a way to hang around and annoy you for a long time' " (Green 215). The battles continue until the very last page of the book. No matter what the characters are going through, they are always going to try their best to overcome them and fight them. Augustus fought till the very end, even when the news he got wasn't so great. So I think the overall theme is, fight as long and as hard as you can, no matter how much you want to give up, DON'T. I feel that this theme could also serve as a life lesson. When you want to give up, remember what else you have to live for, and fight it.

My article that i chose talks about how everyone always looks at cancer as all sad and depressing. John Green, the author of 'The Fault in Our Stars', is finally putting the "humor" in cancer. He is telling the raw reality of cancer but while looking at the bright side. Hazel says, "Some infinities are bigger than other infinities ... There are days, many of them, when I resent the size of my unbound set. But Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity."
This article that i found perfectly describes the impact this book can have on people.
